Counselling Students
I have had a great deal of experience working with psychotherapy and counselling students who require counselling as part of their courses. I am particularly enthusiastic about this work and have come to believe that students enjoy a wonderful opportunity for creativity and personal development.
Relationship Counselling
In addition to my individual counselling work, I am one of the few Imago Relationship Therapists in England and have recently become a specialist in relationship counselling and problems - I have been interviewed on BBC Radio and written published articles. I give relationship advice for people who need divorce counselling or have separation issues. Also I have helped families with relationship problems and people who need marriage guidance. I have helped gay couples, women in lesbian relationships and I have given general love advice to many people in intimate partnerships. (Click Couples Counselling page above for more about relationship advice and marriage counselling).
Psychotherapy and Counselling Supervision
I am an experienced supervisor and have a relevant degree. I have supervised with many counselling students and people beginning careers in psychotherapy and counselling.

Why Counselling?
As individuals most of us get stuck or overwhelmed sometimes whether we are part of a couple or not. This does not usually mean that we are mad or have a mental illness. At these times it can become hard to talk with people close to us because they may either be part of the problem or unavailable. This is a good time to see an experienced counsellor.
We sometimes feel stressed, full of emotional pain and bad about ourselves - we tend towards self blame: to say 'it's my fault, I'm stupid, I cannot control my feelings or the way I think'. This is whether we are in a love relationship or not. We may feel depressed, full of anger, anxious, we may panic or suffer from anxiety attacks, or we may just feel unmotivated and low a lot of the time. Certainly we will lose enthusiasm and spontaneity - the ability to feel and be our true selves. At these times counselling or relationship advice can help us to understand these things better and then to stop blaming ourselves and re-build our self confidence.
If you look in the couples counselling page you will see how I work with people in relationship counselling and marriage counselling in Exeter.
