My Counselling Qualifications Explained

MBACP (Senior Accredited) As an experienced counsellor I am a Member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists - the largest UK counselling accrediting body. This is like a British standard kite mark. They have accredited me because they approve of my training, they monitor my practice, ensure I am supervised and properly insured. I also observe their high standards of counselling confidentiality and ethics. "Senior Accredited" means I am a more experienced counsellor.

Couples Counselling I am also qualified to do relationship counselling. I was an experienced counsellor and worked in various psychotherapy and counselling settings with families and individuals for many years before I got a formal relationship counselling qualification in 2007 (see below).

My Qualifications

• 1979/80. Counselling Certificate; a two year general counselling course.
• 1997. MA. Ed. For this degree I studied teamwork and leadership with carers and teachers of disturbed children.
• 1999. Diploma in Individual Counselling. A two year course specialising in the person centred approach which is within humanistic psychology.
• 2002 Training course, Sexual counselling for the Sexual Abuse Helpline
• 2003 Bereavement counselling certificate
• 2007 I qualified as an Imago Couples Therapist. Only for experienced counsellor s, this training included Relationship advice, divorce counselling, marriage counselling and relationship counselling.
• 1979 to 2008. I completed very many other shorter training courses and continue to study issues to do with, for example loss/grief, panic attacks / anxiety, low self esteem, work stress, sexual and gender issues, loneliness, eating disorders, couples counselling, drug and alcohol counselling etc.
